Wall Repair in Rahway
Cracks that keep coming back, a stained patch from an old leak, a corner that got clipped on moving day. We find out why the wall failed, tell you plainly what it takes to fix, and leave a smooth surface ready for paint.

What wall repair covers
Wall repair is our broader fix for damaged interior walls, drywall or plaster. Some jobs are a single hole. Others are a whole wall with cracks, bulges and old patches that never blended in. We look at the surface first, then at what is behind it, because a crack over a loose seam needs a different fix than a crack in plaster that has pulled away from its lath.
Plenty of older homes around Rahway, Clark and Cranford still have original plaster in some rooms and drywall in others. We work with both, and we tell you which approach fits your wall instead of defaulting to the most expensive one.
If the damage is small and in drywall only, our drywall patching page may be the closer match. If the problem is overhead, see ceiling repair.

What the work includes
- 01
A look at the cause
Before we cut or patch anything, we check for moisture, loose fasteners and movement at seams. If something is still wet or still shifting, we say so, because a patch over an active problem will crack again.
- 02
Plaster crack and bulge repair
We reattach loose plaster where it can be saved, bridge the cracks with mesh tape and build compound up in thin coats. Where plaster is too far gone, we cut it back to sound material and fit drywall to match the thickness.
- 03
Holes, dents and outside corners
Doorknob holes, furniture gouges and crushed corner bead are cut clean, backed where needed and rebuilt. Corners get new bead so the edge is straight again.
- 04
Water-stained sections
Once the leak has been fixed and the wall is dry, we remove soft or swollen board, replace it and seal the area so the old stain does not bleed through.
- 05
Texture matching and sanding
We match smooth, light orange peel or hand-applied textures as closely as the wall allows, then sand so the repair does not catch light at an angle.
- 06
Blending the color back in
Bare compound soaks up paint and dries dull, so it gets a coat of primer first. After that we can brush your existing color over the spot as a paint touch-up, so it sits flush with the rest of the wall.
Questions about Wall Repair?
Call(732) 696-7273Signs your wall needs repair, not just filler
A crack that returns
If you have filled the same crack twice, the seam or plaster behind it is moving. Filler alone will not hold.
Soft or bubbled paint
Paint that feels spongy or lifts in blisters usually means moisture got into the board or plaster. That section often has to come out.
Plaster that sounds hollow
Tap the wall. A hollow, rattly sound means the plaster has let go of the lath, and it can drop in pieces if it is left alone.
Nail pops in a line
Small round bumps along a stud line mean fasteners are backing out. We reset them with screws and refinish the spots.
Old patches that show
A square outline or a shiny spot under the light means an earlier repair was not feathered or primed. We can redo it so it disappears.
How a wall repair job runs
- 1
You describe it by phone
Tell us what you see, how big it is and how long it has been there. We will ask a few questions about leaks or past repairs so we arrive knowing what to look for.
- 2
We inspect and explain
We check the wall, find the cause and give you the options, from a simple fix to a fuller repair. You get a straight explanation of what each one involves and why.
- 3
We protect the room
Floors get covered, furniture gets moved or wrapped, and we seal off doorways when there is sanding. The goal is a clean work area and dust that stays put.
- 4
Repair, dry time, finish
Most repairs take more than one visit because compound needs time to dry between coats. Deep plaster work may need longer. We tell you the schedule up front.
- 5
Cleanup and walkthrough
We vacuum, remove debris and walk the wall with you in good light so you can see the result before we leave.
What moves the cost of wall repair
We do not quote a number before seeing the wall, because two cracks that look alike can have very different causes. What we can tell you is what drives the price, so nothing on the estimate surprises you. You get your quote by phone once we know what is behind the surface.
- Drywall or plaster
- Plaster repairs usually take more steps and more drying time than drywall. Reattaching or rebuilding plaster adds labor.
- Size and number of areas
- One hole is a short job. Several scattered repairs or a full wall of cracks takes more material and more visits.
- What is behind the wall
- Wet insulation, damaged framing edges or rotted lath found after opening up will change the scope. We stop and tell you before doing extra work.
- Texture and finish level
- Smooth walls under bright light need a finer finish than textured walls. Matching an unusual hand texture takes extra time.
- Access and room setup
- Tall stairwell walls, tight hallways and rooms full of furniture take longer to set up and protect.
Wall repair questions
Can you fix plaster, or do you replace it with drywall?
We repair plaster when it is still sound enough to hold. If a section has let go of the lath or crumbles, we cut it back and fit drywall shimmed to the same thickness. We will show you which parts can stay.
Why does the crack above my door keep coming back?
Door and window corners are where walls flex most, so cracks there often follow a weak joint. We open the crack, reinforce it with mesh tape and rebuild it with compound, which holds far better than surface filler.
Do I need to fix the leak before you repair the wall?
Yes. The source of the water has to be stopped and the wall has to be dry first. Otherwise new board or compound will stain and fail again. We can check moisture levels before we start.
Will the repair show after painting?
Not when it is feathered wide, sanded and primed properly. We match texture and can do a paint touch-up over the spot with your existing color. A wall painted many years ago may show a slight color difference, and we will point that out ahead of time.
How long will my room be out of use?
A small repair may take two short visits. Larger plaster work can stretch over several days because of drying time. You can usually use the room between visits.
